Introduction

This site collects data in two different ways. Basic usage data supplied by your browser is saved in the server logs every time you load a new page. And additional data is stored in a database when you post a comment on this site. Cookies are only created if you use the commenting system.

Server logs

Every time you load a page an entry is added to our standard Apache server logs, storing technical information sent by your browser, such as your IP address and the names and versions of your web browser and operating system. No personal information such as name or email address is stored here.

When you post a comment on this web site, the comment and its metadata is stored in a sqlite database in our local installation of the Isso commenting system. This metadata includes:

  • IP address
  • Your name
  • Your E-mail address
  • Your photo or avatar image

Your name and photo is shown with the comment to all visitors of the site. The IP and E-mail addresses are never shown to visitors, but may be used by the web site's owner to contact you, and to send you notifications of replies to your comment if you opt-in to that using the corresponding checkbox in the form.

Third-party tracking

Clicking the Google or Facebook buttons in order to authenticate with the commenting system will run third-party scripts from those services. No such third-party scripts or tracking is run on this site unless you explicitly click those icons.

Visiting and browsing this site does not create any cookies. Using the comment system (either by authenticating with OpenID, Google or Facebook, or by posting a non-authenticated comment) will create a cookie to store your credentials for making future comments.

Additionally, authenticating with Google or Facebook will run third-party scripts that may create their own cookies, in accordance with the policies of those respective services.
